Here it goes
Hi everyone,
If you don’t know me or haven’t heard from me for a while due to my troglodyte tendancies, my name is Dante and I just graduated from Portfolio Center’s illustration program in Atlanta, Georgia this week. I have started this blog to follow my adventures in the professional world of illustration, finding jobs, and the greater world of art and illustration (as well as whatever else I feel like posting on here) from here on out. Enjoy following me along in my journey.
My final Critique was this past Wednesday aroud 9:30AM. Critique is our end of the quarter review by a panel of professionals and teachers. Illustration tends to have mostly teachers on the panel. Mine was all teachers who have seen my work before. Even if there was less surprise in that respect, it was good to have some closing comments from these teachers who have been there all this time. I was at Portfolio Center for ten quarters. The programs is only supposed to go for eight quarters, but transfered to the illustration program from copywriting in the middle of my fifth quarter. (It’s kind of an “early-but-late” situation.) So that means that I have weathered through ten Critiques. I can’t believe it. Critiques are tough and it’s what the whole quarter is building up to. Lots of stress, lots of things go wrong and right. This one was the smoothest ever. Luckily, I didn’t have to concentrate so much on presentation and rushing to finish the work for it. One of the perks of graduating is being able to focus on doing everything well for my final portfolio. I brought in what I had and got lots of positive feedback and honest opinions. I really apprectiate my panels comments, esspecially this last time.
Speaking of my final portfolio, grad sign-off is on July 20th at PC. That’s the deadline for my final tangible portfolio. I’ve decided to make a box with loose prints placed inside. My official website is still in the works. I’m having trouble launching it. I bought my domain name and hosting, but can’t get the damn things to show up. I’ll let you know when it’s up or let me know if you might be able to help. For now, you can catch my work on a few other useful sites like Mosaic Globe, Coloflot , and my Flickr. Gotta network it up!
What have I done since Wednesday? Absolutely nothing pertaining to work. Hooray! I’ve been catching up with family since Thursday. My little brother just turned four and has his birthday party this afternoon. I’ve been submerging inside my knitting bag and watching movies at every chance I get. Productivity will resume on Monday.
